Joep Mencke
Book artistBiography
Joep Mencke’s music takes you on a journey. His deep and melodious tracks intertwined with organic sounds of nature create a compelling and explorative experience.
For the Dutch DJ and producer, music is a powerful tool to evolve. His 11-track debut album Unalome, released in October 2022, symbolises the path to enlightenment in Buddhism: fully rooted in his purpose to use music to transform consciousness and ultimately as an element on the road towards healing . Each track embodies a particular state or emotion on that path. It begins with courage – to start a journey towards growth, and ends with enlightenment – the ultimate intimacy with all things in life. Expect melancholic chord-progressions, hypnotising bass-lines and driving drums to accompany you on your journey.
Music has always been deeply rooted in Joep’s life. From playing various instruments and joining a band, a profound shift took place during his time at Afrikaburn. The ephemeral city of Tankwa Town allowed him to define his purpose to make music more than just a listening experience. He thrives to ignite a desire within us to delve deeper into ourselves, surrender and embrace change.
Joep’s releases on Crossings (Shelter in the Sky, Azul) and Happy Camper Records (Asiri) became the labels’ most popular tracks to date. Eager to contribute to important environmental and social matters, he is an active member of Bye Bye Plastic, a foundation brought to life by BLOND:ISH. His EP I Sea, in collaboration with The New York Times’ writer Ian Urbina for Outlaw Ocean, was created to raise awareness on the lawlessness on the high seas and encourage ocean preservation.
His track Even ft. Benjamin Sacks, released on Klassified Records where he is a resident, was played across various notable Dutch radio stations such as 538, 3FM and SLAM!. Accompanied by Dutch vocals this nostalgic track reflects on the duality within life and our inner freedom.
From Mexico City to Istanbul, Ibiza, Amsterdam, London or Barcelona: Joep Mencke and his tracks travel the world. He recently signed a residency with the upcoming Kun Society club in Istanbul and joined Buddha Bar on their recent compilation. The Dutch artist values his strong ties with The Gardens of Babylon and Burning Man communities and his most recent sets for the Monastery Festival (TGOB) and the Robot Heart art car (Burning Man) epitomise how his music radiates happiness, bringing people together across the globe.
2023 begins on a high note for the Dutch DJ and producer who will be taking off to his first Australia tour, spreading and expanding his music to the other side of the world. Accept his invitation and embark on a journey towards growth, travelling with the frequencies of his music.
