JP Enfant
Book artistBiography
“Sultry, Dreamy, Warm, Stimulating, Sexy. That is what I want to bring across in my sets and productions. I don’t want the crowd to just dance, I want them to completely lose their minds.”
The musical philosophy of JP Enfant is as clear-cut as his DJ sets and productions. De School resident has a love for all-night-long sets and is on a fast track to becoming an influential figure in techno. He garners an idiosyncratic style: steaming, mind expanding and slightly melancholic sounds made for the dance floor, alongside the odd excursion to forward-thinking ambient and bass.
At the age of fourteen, JP had his first encounter with turntables and records. After gaining some experience in his hometown Breda, his DJing started to take shape after moving to Amsterdam. It was here that he got acquainted with like-minded souls, with whom he would establish a collective, label and event series called LET – Les Enfants Terribles – allowing him to combine label management and promoting, consequently solidifying his place in the Amsterdam dance scene.
After hosting several successful LET events in Amsterdam, Club Trouw opened its doors to the organisation, where the collective curated a motley of events touching on bass and groove-laden rhythms. Trouw was pivotal in JP’s personal path, leading to a DJ residency at the age of 21. The club acted as a safe haven in several ways, allowing JP to cross-pollinate different genres. This resulted in JP hosting an explorative club-night aptly named Psychedelic Romance. The night was a springboard for him to present an interesting and uncommon mix of techno and UK-bass artists, and also laid fundament for future projects.
When Trouw closed in 2015, JP got a first-hour residency at the clubs highly anticipated and now-defunct successor; De School. The venue’s pitch-black basement was where JP could leap into new musical grounds. Without a doubt, one could say it was a true place to call home before the club shut in 2020 due to the financial blow of the pandemic. This, however, did not hinder JP’s ambition. With a plan to launch Psychedelic Romance into a record label, JP spent the majority of lockdown finessing the ethos of the imprint and producing music that reflected his vision in mind; dance music as a ritual for healing and elevation of the spirits of many.
Psychedelic Romance revolves around the cycle of life; birth, experience, clarity and release. Having approached production with a sense of liberation during lockdown, JP delved beyond 4/4 structures and deep into experimental tones, mirrored in JP’s debut release ‘Birth’ which includes a remix by leftfield producer LCY.
Coming up in 2022, Psychedelic Romance will act as a platform to push new names with digital-only releases in tandem with the imprint’s life-cycle themed vinyl productions. A multi-faceted concept encompassing art and immersive experiences on and off the dancefloor, Psychedelic Romance will launch as an eponymous events series in Amsterdam before expanding worldwide.
With Psychedelic Romance and a string of releases on his way, 2022 is set to be a promising year for JP Enfant.
